Week 2
The corset diet week two. This is a difficult week where the interest and surprise of colleagues and passers by start to irritate. However the work put in is starting to bring results. Wearing the corset has begun to become a familiar support, slightly more comfortable at the end of the first week and now maybe becoming less comfortable. The correct size corset is vital and now the seams and stitching has slowly blended to your body it may now start to become or feel slightly too big. The corset has become slightly bigger but the real truth is you are getting slightly smaller. No real difference in eating patterns can be identified but the corset is serving its purpose. It is making you far more aware of your shape, your sexuality and how you move and interact with modern day life. The laces can be shortened further using the same technique as last week but remember not to go too short or commit the ultimate crime by tying the laces around your waist. This will distort the boning and as you may have noticed the rigid corset you first tried on is actually a fairly flexible friend. The wrapping of laces around the waist provides an immovable binding that will cause nasty marks on the waist.
The dilemma of the corset is the catch 22 of underwear. The construction and strength of the corset is exactly as Victorian women would have worn. The waist measurement over the tightened corset does not really reduce from your actual waist size. This confusion and frustration is because the corset has a thickness that, when added to your body, increases the circumference by at least 2 to 3 inches. What has been reduced by the effects of lacing is replaced by the thickness of the corset. This is why corsets can look bulky and cumbersome encasing your body when they are perfectly fitted. This brings a dawning of those Victorian ladies pictured in their dresses and ball gowns. They are wearing a corset and dress but still have a very small waist from the outside. The corsets from the past must have been very tight indeed.
Modern clothing is very difficult to wear with a corset because of the outside size and really only blouses and skirts or a long dress are suitable. They are bulky at the back with the lacing and knots but hopefully you are beginning to feel and see some results. Week two is when you may start thinking about a smaller corset. If this is the case then this weeks tip is to wear the corset over a long t-shirt of vest. Make sure the underlayer is pulled down to ensure the creasing under the corset is lessened. The underlayer will increase the tightness feeling of the corset due to its thickness increasing the tension on the laces. Another layer in hot weather is possibly not a helpful idea but it will give the feeling of tightness if your corset is too loose and arrangements can be made for a smaller one after week three. Silk or cotton fabrics are preffered but be careful not to damage the item when pulling the laces. Fingers can become snagged in the underlayer. Remember your body weight will fluctuate naturally over the weeks so try the under layer and if it is too tight, resort to wearing the corset as you have been.
Good luck and keep going.
