Petanque boule and circles

Round in Circles

The introduction of plastic circles to the sport of petanque has changed how many players look at the sport. They add a definition to the game and spectators can clearly see both ends of the game. We are going to be going round and round in circles over the next few tips.

The very first tip is simple. Put the circle on the ground the correct way up! Yes believe it or not they are designed to be used the right way up. A close look will reveal a tiny chamfer on the inside and outside edge. This is to prevent players tripping over the ring as they step in and out of the circle. Oh and it also helps getting the ring out of the manufacturing mould. It is subtle but it is there. It is no mistake that the branding is only on one side. This is not an advertising gimmick. It is to show which is the top and which is the bottom. Who knew?
