Corset swivel hinge closures

Now we are getting decorative, practical and a truly charming engineering solution. If you are wanting a smooth contour under a dress these corsets are not for you. The swivel hinge closures are bulky and almost by design and made to be worn as outerwear for all to see. Very popular with steampunk and pirate enactors the posts are drilled to take the locking pin into the top edge once passed through a metal ring. Tricky to locate at first the pins do need to be vertical in order for the swivel hook to find the hole and pass through to close. This means you cannot just pop in the top post and then continue to close the others unless both sides of the front of the corset sides are parallel. The laces will need to be loosened before attempting to close the front of the corset. Once the hinge swivels are closed they are secure and the lacing can be tightened as normal. The front of the corset is displayed with locking mechanism which seem to be attractive to the engineers among us and they are a very popular choice. When taking off the corset the lacing will need to be loosened and the hinge swivels raised. Tension at this point may cause the posts to twist and a swivel hook could bend or break in the post so always loosen the laces before taking off any corset. Tiresome but part of the process.
