Corset Zip Closures

We are looking at corset closures and know the traditional busk clip fittings provide a great system for your corset. They can be a little tricky and are odd to the standard new corset wearer. So how about zip fastening. These can be easy to put on, the laces are loosened and the zip can be zipped up before the lacing is tightened. The problem is the zip cannot withstand a high side force of the pressure sustained by a tightly laced corset. Unless the zip is of a heavy duty manufacture the zip can be pulled apart on its length and sometimes ripped away from the zip pull. If the top of the zip is not secure it could rip open under pressure and it is this reason most zip corsets have buckles or straps over the corset to give added protection and keep the pressure away from the zip. In the photos we see a typical leather corset with zip and straps. If the zip is undone in order to take the corset off while the laces are tight this will lead to the zip pulling apart and potentially ripping the zip pull from the two sides of the zip. The buckles will be undone at this point so give no protection to the zip.  know some heavy duty corsets are fastened with a zip and are worn successfully. As you may have noticed I am not a fan of the zip fasten corset but everyone has their preference.
